| If you have ever been to the swap meet in Costa Mesa you probably have seen the old Asian man who sells cheese graters. He
demonstrates all day grating cheese on his flat top grater chanting "back and forth, back and forth, New York LA, New York LA". That New york LA part always stuck in my head. On the 4th of July in 2001 I woke up early and went to see JT "The Jackhammer of Love" We burn some bowls and watched a tape of Elvis live in Honolulu. It was a full satellite broadcast - worldwide. I was tripping on the idea that the satellite broadcast could be seen anywhere in the universe by some one with a receiver. I wrote some lyrics about Elvis that were later pared down to the New York LA chorus. I was jammin the song at practice one day singing "Trans Universal" and Fever walks by and says "worldwide baby, you guys ain't shit", because he is a worldwide rockstar. So I stole his words and put them in the verse. I wrote the "those guys ain't shit" bridge part right then and Cornblaster put some extra lyrics on it. Dave Shea came up with the catchy chromatic guitar lick that kicks the song in and restarts it at the end. Heavy D did a great job on drums, especially the build at the end. - Elder D |
